Quad 4 Consulting was founded by operators—not theorists—who have lived through rapid growth, operational failure, financial pressure, and full-scale turnaround. Our experience was forged in the real world, not a boardroom.

The Origin Story

In 2014, Doug Heck founded Spectacular Solar after the solar company he worked for unexpectedly shut down. With no startup capital, Doug bootstrapped the business using revenue from early sales. What began as a one-person operation grew into a 30-employee company by 2020, powered by Doug’s strengths in sales and marketing.

Like many fast-growing companies, Spectacular Solar faced challenges as it scaled. Hiring decisions were often made under pressure, without the time or resources for perfect vetting. Doug simultaneously served as CEO and Head of Sales, and while revenue growth masked operational inefficiencies, cracks were forming beneath the surface.

When COVID-19 lockdowns hit, those cracks widened. Sales slowed, operational breakdowns became visible, projects fell behind, customer complaints increased, and financial stress mounted. While the company was still viable, it was clear that a fundamental restructuring was needed.

The Turning Point

At a critical moment, Doug was introduced to Al Francesco, a CPA with extensive experience helping fast-growing companies stabilize operations and execute successful turnarounds. Al conducted a full analysis of the business, uncovering the root causes of the company’s challenges.

The solution required decisive action:

- Leadership roles were restructured

- Staff was right-sized and accountability systems were implemented

- Operations were rebuilt with new processes and controls

- Installation teams were placed under clear management and standards

Al stepped in as Interim CEO, while Doug transitioned to Founder and Head of Sales & Marketing—the strongest and most consistent area of the business. Together, they led Spectacular Solar through a Chapter 11 reorganization, restructuring debt and rebuilding the company from the ground up.

Through disciplined execution, operational reform, and record-setting sales, Spectacular Solar emerged stronger, leaner, and more resilient than ever.

From Turnaround to Transformation.

After completing what appeared to be an impossible turnaround, Doug and Al recognized a larger opportunity. If they could rebuild Spectacular Solar under extreme conditions, they could help other businesses avoid—or overcome—the same challenges.

As technology accelerated and artificial intelligence began reshaping industries, they immersed themselves in AI-driven business systems. What started as internal efficiency improvements evolved into scalable frameworks that could be applied across industries.
